Diabetes can result in many complications. Research is underway on various fronts to understand what causes the complications and to find ways to prevent them.

Vision Changes in Diabetes

Researchers at the School of Optometry at the University of California, Berkeley, are investigating the direct effects of blood glucose levels on vision in people with and without diabetes. That research depends on participation of diabetic volunteers. In return for two to four hours of their time, participants receive a brief eye exam, US$15 per hour, and a better understanding of their vision and diabetes. This research has been funded continuously for 18 years by the National Eye Institute of the National Institutes of Health.
