Question:
I have heard about a sugar sensitive insulin being developed that works
harder when glucose levels go up. Do you know if this will be available in
the near future?
Answer:
No such critter. Maybe somebody misinterpreted something somewhere, about
lyspro insulin?
This product is a synthetic insulin similar to Regular insulin, that works
faster and is gone faster than standard Regular insulin (but it doesn't work
differently based on blood sugar levels!).
Lyspro is being reviewed by the FDA presently, and might be available in
1996 (we hope). It's made by Eli Lilly, and will be sold with the brand name
Humalog (weird name; it's an human insulin
analog).
