Question:
When our daughter was first diagnosed in July 95, several of the nurses in
the hospital, also diabetics, told us to be sure and use one kind of
insulin. They said either the Novolin or Humulin did not work as well as
the other. Could there be any truth in this and what is the difference in
the two kinds of insulin?
Answer:
Both company's products are about the same. The differences have diminished
in the past few years. There are some rare circumstances where one brand
might behave somewhat differently (for example, in insulin pump tubing).
Usually, we're advising patients and parents to stick with one brand
whenever possible; don't buy a different brand just to save a few pennies.
