Question:
From America OnLine:
Our 8-yr-old IDDM daughter has an ongoing problem with head lice. Her other
siblings, mother and I do not have any problem with them. The school sent
home a notice in the early fall to alert all parents of the problem, but no
further notices have been sent home and the school has not had any further
difficulty with them. We have treated her 6 times with Nix since the fall,
but she continues to have lice. We thought that possibly the added sugar in
her body could be emmitting through the oils in her scalp causing the
problem. Please help!!!!
Answer:
We're not aware of any information that would
support the theory that extra sugar in the oils in the scalp can provoke
additional problems like this (but we wouldn't be surprised if there was
some information about this somewhere!).
We discussed your daughter's situation with a dermatologist. He advised that
she should be seen by a dermatologist for a thorough scalp exam, before
trying any other remedies.
