Question:
From Bahrain:
Do some fruits contain more "natural" sugar than others? What is considered to be the average fruit serving (i.e. grams or ounces). Please include kiwi fruit in your answer.
Answer:
Yes, some fruits contain more "natural sugar" than others, so it is difficult to tell you an "average" fruit exchange. For instance, 1/3 cup of blueberries contains approximately the same amount of carbohydrate as 1 cup of raspberries (15 grams of carbohydrate or 1 fruit exchange). It is best to look up each individual fruit in the exchange lists. The book Exchanges For All Occasions, by Marion Franz, contains an expanded fruit exchange list. According to that book, 1 1/2 medium kiwi or 1 large kiwi is approximately equal to 1 fruit exchange.
