Is there anything you can advise at this time about the use of Humalog (lispro) in children?
Lispro insulin hasn't been adequately studied in kids for the FDA to approve for this use, and most pediatric diabetes specialists don't yet have protocols developed on how/when/where/what to use it.
The Diabetes Team at Children with DIABETES has discussed this issue among ourselves about what to advise about this product, and it is our feeling that it is most appropriate to refer the questioners to diabetes teams (such as pediatric diabetes specialists for kids, and/or endocrinologists for adults with diabetes) who will be using the product in a well-defined setting.
As more information becomes available, we'll be better able to answer some of the questions directly.
Followup:: Children with Diabetes has a webpage about lispro insulin. (23 August 96)
