From São Paulo, Brazil:
I'd like to recieve more information about growth and diabetes.
Answer:
We had a visit recently from two pediatricians who ran a clinic for poor children in São Paulo. From what they said, the greatest problems with growth in diabetic children in their city are due to poor control, unavailability of insulin, and calorie restriction. In Europe this situation was sometimes called Mauriac Syndrome.
In the U.S., the commonest reason for poor growth is hypothyroidism, although it also occurs in some rare disorders like the Prader-Willi syndrome.
