Question:

Our son is 3, diagnosed February, 1996 [9 months ago], Type 1.

He has been suffering from night terrors (uncontrollable crying and sobbing in his sleep), and as far as we can remember, they have only been since diagnosis (or certainly increased since then). Would you suspect they are related, or is this a normal 3 year old thing? (Our daughter never had as many as our son does--he's having at least 2 - 4 a month). He never wakes up, so we're never certain what he is crying for, and usually it has not been a traumatic evening (i.e., shots or bedtime). Should we be checking his blood glucose when this happens?

Answer:

Night terrors are fairly common and it's interesting that your daughter had them too. However, I think, until you are sure you can tell the difference between a hypo and a night terror, you should check a sugar.
