Question:

From Kentucky, USA:

In one of your recently answered questions you stated that Humalog® [lispro insulin] mixed with NPH should be used "shortly." The Lilly company's literature with our bottle of Humalog states "immediately." In measurable time what is shortly or immediately -- 5 minutes, an hour, all day?

Answer:

Immediately is best: as soon as you've drawn the second insulin into the syringe, and placed the vial on a surface, then inject! (If the phone or doorbell rings, give the shot before answering!)
