Question:

From Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA:

Can diabetes stunt growth?

Answer:

Yes and no. Properly managed and controlled diabetes doesn't significantly affect growth but poor control means that final height is reduced a little below what would otherwise have been expected. For some reason this was slightly more pronounced in the boys in a European study which will be published in May, 1997 in Diabetes Care.
