Question:

My daughter, age 3, was diagnosed with Type 1 eleven months ago. We had a great diabetic team. We have since moved and are disappointed with the new team she has. We would like to look for a new doctor, but have had a very tough time finding pediatric endocrinologists in our area. Do you have any listing of doctors or other ideas of how we might find information?

Answer:

Several thoughts about finding a new pediatric diabetes team:

  • Call your daughter's previous diabetes team, and ask if they are aware of any nearby programs that specialize in kids with diabetes.
  • Try some of the hints in a previous question.
  • Call a nearby Recognized Diabetes Education Program and inquire about whether they see a lot of children with diabetes, and have pediatric endocrinologists, nurses, and dietitians as part of their program.
