From Montreal, Canada:
Is hypoglycemia in adolesence and early adulthood a precursor to diabetes in later life? Also, what is the most common age range for the onset of diabetes?
The peak age of onset of Type 1 diabetes is 10-12 years. I know of no association between hypoglycaemic attacks at any age being associated with later onset diabetes, although occasionally new onset cases tell us about symptoms in the previous few weeks which may have been related to mild hypoglycaemia perhaps due to sudden release of insulin from inflammed beta cells.
