Question:

From California, USA:

I have a friend that found out she was diabetic at the age of 14. Her father is an alcoholic and her mother may also be. By what I understand, he drank (possibly her mother too) when my friend was conceived. Is there any information relating diabetes and sugar disorders with children of alcoholics?

Answer:

I do not know of a connection between alcohol consumption and the development of diabetes in a fetus, nor a proclivity toward diabetes in this group.
