Question:

From Colchester, UK:

Is there any other condition which would show similar symptoms to diabetes mellitus in a 7 year old girl?

Answer:

Symptoms of diabetes:

  • Drinking too many fluids
  • Passing excessive amounts of urine - including during the night
  • Weight loss
  • Lethargy
A full house of the above can really only be diabetes. However, many children habitually drink too much juice or milk and so pass a lot of urine. The difference is that they are otherwise totally healthy and, obviously, don't have sugar in their urine.

There are also rare conditions like diabetes insipidus but again this is easily diagnosed.

If you are in any doubt then check it out!
