From Boise, Idaho, USA:
We have a 15 year old daughter, diagnosed 3/12 years ago with Type 1, who recently got her daytime driver's license and is anxious to drive by herself. Needless to say, we are a little nervous about allowing her to do this. Do you have any suggestions for us to help ensure her safety while driving solo?
You are correct that driving a car is a big responsibility. Of utmost importance is to prevent an accident from hypoglycemia. Your daughter should check her blood sugar before driving, and periodically during long trips. She should have food next to her in case of a low, and extra food in the car in case of delay, weather problems, etc.
