Question: From Quebec, Canada: My 10 year old was diagnosed Type 1 when he was 4 years old. He was previously diagnosed with asthma. Since the diabetes he's been diagnosed with epilepsy, ADD and chronic constipation. Is it common for diabetic children to have many other diseases and/or disorders? Are they related at all? I wonder how much one child is supposed to be able to live with. Answer: Type 1 diabetes and asthma are both autoimmune disorders, and it is fairly common to find both occurring in the same individual. There's a previous question about asthma at Children with Diabetes. I do not know of a connection between epilepsy, ADD, chronic constipation, and diabetes.
