Question:

From Virginia, USA:

I recall reading on the web about a new home Ha1c [glycohemoglobin] test. Do you have more information?

Answer:

The Hemoglobin A1c Home Collection Kit by Diabetes Support Systems contains four sample collection vials to provide one-year of testing. Vials are sent via pre-addressed and pre-stamped mailers to a laboratory, and results are forwarded to your doctor. As with the DCA 2000+ [which is an office lab machine] one drop of capillary blood is used, obtained from a finger stick. DSS can be reached at:

[Editor's comment: The Hemoglobin A1c Home Collection Kit is promoted as equivalent to more usual versions of the test, but has not been evaluated by the Medical Advisors at children with DIABETES. WWQ]
