Could you please give us information about new medications for Type 1. My brother is 15 and he's had diabetes for about 10 months and he is fed up with
injections. He has very high levels of glucose in the morning.
So far we really don't have any new active medication for people suffering from Type 1 diabetes, apart from insulin. The ideal medication should be something that can make you as healthy as before the diagnosis of diabetes (like antibiotics for infections) or prevents you from becoming diabetic. Insulin is a substitutive therapy for life. What is going on nowadays are actually only experimental trials of secondary prevention of Type 1 diabetes in genetically high risk subjects with insulin injections or by mouth, vaccines, or with compounds like nicotinamide. We hope to find a cure for diabetes in the coming years if the cause(s) of the disease will be pinpointed.
