Question: From Peekskill, New York, USA: My mother, age 70, recently had a fasting glucose blood test and her result was 158. Her doctor said there is no problem and no further tests necessary. Should she be tested again to rule out diabetes? Answer: I hope you misunderstood the situation! If the value was 158 and she was fasting, she probably does have diabetes. Retesting seems in order, to confirm the diagnosis, not to rule it out. See Classification and Diagnosis of Diabetes for more information.
