Question:

From New York City, New York, USA:

Are there any ways to remove a goiter besides surgery for a diabetic with complications?

Answer:

What to do with a goiter depends on what is causing the thyroid gland to enlarge (the word "goiter" merely means "enlarged thyroid"). If your surgeon hasn't discussed alternatives to surgery, ask! And if you're still unsure, get a second opinion from an endocrinologist, on both the necessity of surgery, and how to control your diabetes during surgery.
