Question:

From San Francisco, California, USA:

My 29 year old daughter just had her diabetes screening test. Her value was 181 and she is scheduled for the 3 hour test next week. Is a high value like hers presumptive of gestational diabetes? The higher the screening value more likely to be positive on the 3 hour or is there no correlation?

Answer:

Some authorities state that if the 1 hour glucose test is greater than 185, this is diagnostic of gestational diabetes and the three hour test is not necessary. However, your daughter's test while high, may not be indicative of gestational diabetes.
