From Dublin, Ireland:
Our seven year old daughter is on insulin for two years with constant ketones. She was admitted to hospital with large ketones and normal blood readings and allowed home although blood gases were not normal. She is on two injections, complains of tummy aches. Any idea what is the cause of her ketones?
The diabetes choices are too little insulin, or too little food. (The normal blood sugars come from too little food and ketones from fat breakdown). Beyond that, there are some metabolic diseases that make ketones; but that's too esoteric for this discussion.
