Question: From Palo Alto, California, USA: I understand that diabetes is partially hereditary and partially environmental. Can you tell me what the environmental factors are? What, if anything, can I do now? Answer: You can't do anything. We don't know what the environmental factors are but candidates include viral infection, cow's milk and nitrites in water.
