Question:

From Ontario, Canada:

A 6 year old boy in our community has brittle diabetes. His family has expressed an interest in aquiring an insulin pump for him to use but cannot afford the dollars to purchase it. Do you know of any organizations that can assist with the cost?

Answer:

Someone could contact both pump companies (MiniMed and Disetronic). They work with situations like the one you describe. The parents should also realize that a pump is not a cure -- use of a pump, especially in a young child, requires constant vigillance on the parents' part.

There are many options out there. I strongly suggest that your friends bring this child to a pediatric diabetes center, and explore all the options.
