Question:

From Pennsylvania, USA:

My grandson son is 6 years old. He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 and is a very brittle diabetic. He has been suffering from nightmares but when we test him during the nightmares, he is generally in a decent range, not too high nor low. Is there another reason related to diabetes for this? Also, he has been complaining of stomach pains but not necessarily at mealtime.

Answer:

Hypoglycemia is a well described cause of nightmares. Have you checked at other times in the night. He may be back up by the time you are testing.

Stomach pains in 6 year old children are always a problem if the cause isn't easily found (stress, parasites, etc.). Ask your doctor to look for celiac disease too.
