Question: From Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA:
When screening for diabetes what is the solution that one drinks made of and in what quantities?
Answer:
It is a chilled solution containing 75 Gm glucose for adults. The test dose for children is 1.75 Gm/Kg ideal body weight to a maximum of 75 Gm. Commercial solutions are flavored for palatability. Blood samples are obtained fasting and at 30-minute intervals over several hours from the initial swallow of the glucose solution.
