Question: From New York, New York, USA:
I am 26 years old and was diagnosed 5 weeks ago with Type 1. Since then I have gotten my sugar level under tight control. Sometimes my feet get cold and fall asleep even though the weather is warm outside. Should I be worried?
Answer:
Don't get too concerned. However, to be on the safe side, ask your doctor to check for the possibility of an underactive thyroid gland. It's not uncommon to find that people with Type 1 diabetes also have thyroid gland underactivity (hypothyroidism).
