Question:

From North Carolina, USA:

My eight year old son was diagnosed with diabetes about six months ago. Before that he was diagnosed with ADHD. Medications for ADHD did not help. He still has a problem writing and staying focused when his blood sugars are high or going up. Could high blood sugar levels mask as ADHD?

Answer:

Many young children are "irritable" for unknown reasons when their blood sugar is high even when they don't have a diagnosis of ADHD. I doubt high blood sugars were misdiagnosed as ADHD.
