Question:

From Michigan, USA:

I have recently received a sugar free catalog of food products (mostly candy). The main sweetener in it is " maltitol". I have read what you have said about sugar alcohols, but this product claims to have "not elevate blood sugar and has 2-3 calories per gram." Should maltitol be calculated like the other sugar alcohols by dividing the carbohydrates in half?

Answer:

I believe this is a good way to approach the sugar alcohols, and maltitol is one of the sugar alcohols.
