Question: From Lakewood, Colorado, USA:
Are alpha cells affected by the autoimmune response like the beta cells? In other words are they destroyed in the same way? Knowing their importance, does having Type 1 in any other way affect the functioning of these cells?
Answer:
Alpha cells make glucagon and they are destroyed with the rest of the islet tissue in the autoimmune process.
