Answer: A great question, without an answer in 1999, but here are some thoughts: Diabetes, Type 1, the autoimmune type: Family members should participate in the DPT-1 trial. Ask your endocrinologist about a center near you. Infants: some centers are screening for the genes that are associated with diabetes.
