I know that one of the complications of diabetes is nerve damage or neuropathy. Is this due to taking so many injections a day? Can so many needles damage your nerves?
Answer:
No. Some may argue that the opposite is the case: i.e., multiple injection therapy may improve control and thus make nerve damage less likely. However, the reality is that the number of injections is not the critical factor in improved blood sugar control -- attention to diet, regular exercise and care over blood sugar monitoring and injections is the key. (This is easier to say than to achieve.)
