Question:

From Singapore:

My friend says eating a lot of sweets can give you diabetes and I say this is not true; but that being overweight can often lead to diabetes. Who is correct?

Answer:

You are correct. Eating sweets does not cause diabetes. A lifetime of poor eating habits that lead to obesity can be a factor in the development of Type 2 diabetes.
