Question:

From South Carolina, USA:

I am 20 and I have had type 1 diabetes for 3 years. I am in good health and I am wondering if there is an average life expectancy for an otherwise healthy type 1 diabetic patient.

Answer:

Nowadays a diabetic person in good metabolic control since first diagnosis has a life expectancy almost comparable to other people of the same age and sex, but still a little bit shorter.
