Question:

From Sainte-Foy, Quebec, Canada:

Does Lidocaine Ointment (5%) modify the effect of insulin?

Answer:

I am not sure under what conditions you are referring. However, local anesthesia with lidocaine should not greatly affect diabetes. However, sick day management. would come into play for a surgical procedure. Check frequent blood sugars and urine ketones to assess insulin needs, and keep an eye on fluid needs.
