Question: From Olathe, Kansas, USA:
What are your feelings/recommendations on the Chicken Pox and Pneumonia vaccinations for a 2 1/2 year old with type 1? We all ready have received the first part of our flu shot.
Answer:
You really need to discuss this with your daughter's pediatrician; but having Type 1A (autoimmune) diabetes already should not pose any special hazard for the routine immunisation program advocated by the American Academy of Pediatrics -- always with the proviso that a rare reaction may make control a little difficult for a day or two.
