Question:

From Middletown, Rhode Island, USA:

My daughter is 12 years old and has Type 1 diabetes. I heard on the news that in Europe they have an oral medication instead of injections. Is this true? If so, how safe is it and will the FDA approve this?

Answer:

I have not heard of an oral medication for type 1 diabetes. We still also use insulin by injection. Perhaps an oral preparation will come some day, but as far as I know, no one has developed it yet.
