Question: From Hawthorne, California, USA:
My son has type 1 diabetes. Last night, I saw a show on television that referred to someone "abusing insulin" to get high/sex/etc. Now I'm nervous. Can insulin be "abused"?
Answer:
I've not heard of insulin ever being used as a drug of abuse. I unaware of anyone getting "high" in the drug abuse sense of the word from insulin.
[Editor's comment: I have seen kids at diabetes camp deliberately go low because they get a "buzz". Of course, this is a very dangerous practice and needs to be avoided. SS]
