Question: From Trichy, Tamil Nadu, India:
Is diabetes triggered by blood glucose alone, or is it also due to tension? Does it produce incontinence of urine and anosmia?
Answer:
Diabetes is not caused by high blood sugars -- they are a consequence. Stress is known to be associated with the onset of diabetes, but it is a co-factor in the timing of the onset by creating an extra demand for insulin, rather than a cause. The polyuria (excess urine production of diabetes) is often a cause of incontinence of urine especially in children. Anosmia [loss of the sense of smell] is not associated with diabetes.
