I'm a 20 year old girl who has type 1 diabetes. Is it true that a person with diabetes cannot donate blood?

Answer:

I would suggest you check with the American Red Cross regarding your question. I am not sure that is the case.

[Editor's comment: See Whole Blood Donor Eligibility Guidelines at the University of Vermont Blood Drive Committee's website. They quote data from the American Red Cross in 1998, which indicates diabetes is "yes." SS]
