Question:

I forgot that my allergy shots have glycerin in them, and I had my blood drawn for a glucose test (for gestational diabetes) about one and a half hours later. The result was 170 mg/dl [9.4 mmol/L]. Can three allergy shots, s preserved with glycerin, throw off a glucose test?

Answer:

Glycerine (C3H8O3) is unrelated to glucose and should have no effect on blood sugars.
