Question: From Phoenix, Oregon, USA:
We are planning to send our 11 year old daughter to diabetes camp this summer, and our insurance policy covers diabetes education. Can any part of the camp expenses be billed as education?
Answer:
Although your daughter will undoubtedly receive "hands on" diabetes education from staff members and other kids with diabetes, I doubt insurance will cover the cost of any of the diabetes camp because the camp cannot cover all of the ADA education areas. However, if your insurance is good, they may cover some of camp cost if you can justify what is taught at camp. It doesn't hurt to try. If that goes nowhere, you may be able to apply for a campership to cover some or all the cost.
