Question:

From Millville, New Jersey, USA:

I am a 53 year old overweight female newly diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and a year before this I was given steroids for a back problem. I also have a fatty liver. Could these drugs have caused me to develop diabetes?

Answer:

Steroids might have accelerated the onset of type 2 diabetes. However, the primary cause is being overweight which leads to the insulin resistance (fatty liver is a specific feature thereof).
