Question: From San Diego, California, USA:
Is there an insulin sensitizer on the market that does not have an associated heart warning risk? If someone had a family history of heart disease without a family history of diabetes, would a drug with a heart risk warning be inadvisable?
Answer:
Heart warnings are on both the thiazolidinedione medications (Avandia [rosiglitazone] and Actos [pioglitazone]) that are on the market. Anyone who has a family history of heart disease and contemplates going on a medication which carries a risk for it, should be monitored very carefully.
