Question: From Belding, Michigan, USA:
I recently saw an ad in a diabetes magazine that refers to the Sleep Sentry as being economical. However, the quoted cost of $349.00 is anything but economical! Do any insurance plans cover the purchase of this device?
Answer:
This was ordered by a patient of mine in the mid 90's, and it was not covered by insurance at that time.
[Editor's comment: We contacted the manufacturer of the Sleep Sentry, and received this reply (on November 26, 2001):
WWQ]As to the affordability of the monitor -- Because this monitor should last 15-20 years and there are no sensors, pads, or accessories of any kind to purchase, most people find $349 to be economical considering this could possibly be a life-saving device. Insurance companies at this time are looking at the Sleep Sentry, although no decisions have been made as yet.
