Question:

From Sarasota, Florida, USA:

Is there any way to prevent diabetes from affecting the nerves in your legs?

Answer:

The best way to avoid the many complications of diabetes, including nerve disease in the legs, is by pursuing excellent blood sugar control. Keeping your hemoglobin A1c level at less than 1% above the upper limit of normal for the lab performing the test minimizes your risks of nerve disease and other diabetes complications.
