Question:

From Redmond, Washington, USA:

What are the advantages of the different forms of home management testing (Whole blood versus plasma testing for glucose and urine versus blood for ketones)?

Answer:

There is no particular advantage to using plasma versus whole blood for measuring glucose. The difference is mainly just in the number that is presented to you. Plasma values are 10-20% higher than whole blood results. As for ketone testing, I think it falls to your personal preference in deciding between blood testing and urine testing. Certainly both should work well.
