Question:

From Pasadena, California, USA:

I am 46 years old, I have had diabetes since I was 18, and I take insulin. How does diabetes affect the heart?

Answer:

Diabetes can affect the heart. This is especially true if you have kidney involvement from your diabetes, hypertension, poorly controlled sugars, or poorly controlled cholesterol levels. Please see your doctor to determine if you have any of these conditions, in addition to your diabetes.
