Question:

From Chandigarh, India:

My 11 year old only son, diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about three months ago and treated with pre-mixed insulin, has more or less with an acceptable range of blood sugars and is at present doing moderate exercise consisting of 45 minutes of walking daily. Can he switch to two walking sessions, one early in the morning and one which he is continuing ?

Answer:

You can increase your son's walking sessions.

MS

[Editor's comment: Great idea -- this helps with blood sugar control. If your son is at all interested in sports or other forms of exercise, by all means, allow him to participate. See Information about Exercise at the Diabetes Monitor. SS]
