Question:

From Lindsay, Ontario, Canada:

Is there a relationship between a mother having hypoglycemia (worse when pregnant) and her child/children developing type 1 diabetes?

Answer:

If your own hypoglycemia had been a reflection of inadequate nutrition during pregnancy, that could have been a cause of type 2 diabetes in your child. However, I do not think that there is any such link with type 1A (autoimmune) diabetes.
